This year BIYT takes a look at community and catastrophe.loosely based on "The Skin of Our Teeth" by Thornton Wilder

This play written in 1942, a time of strife for many people in the world, was meant to be a tribute to human endurance. In the original play, at the center is a family facing one apocalyptic catastrophe after another. But In looking at the play through the eyes of an adolescent, the word "catastrophe" has different connotations.

BIYT has turned this classic play into a dark comedy full of Simpson-like symbolism and created another one of their signature epics.
How will the family survive when everyone is so preoccupied with pizza? Does Playstation really help in times of panic? And why do the actors keep on interrupting the show? And what have they got against Guinea pigs. Although warned in the daily news of the coming Hurrican, epidemic or war, the family becomes caught up in their own personal problems making their chances of survival look - not very good.

The play bounces and boings with the ingenious music of Natalia Lincoln and whimsical design of Silie Heeschen and a cast a talented youth ages 11-17 from 9 different countries. An event for the whole family - or not.

In dieser Saison beschäftigt sich das Berlin International Youth Theatre mit dem Thema "Gesellschaft und Katastrophe".

Nach Motiven des Bühnenstückes "The Skin of Our Teeth? (dt. "Wir sind noch einmal davongekommen") von Thornton Wilder

Dieses Stück stammt aus dem Jahr 1942 - weltweit nicht gerade ein Jahr des großen Glücks - und gilt als eine Art Hommage an das menschliche Durchhaltevermögen. Im Zentrum des Stücks steht eine Familie, der eine Katastrophe nach der anderen widerfährt. Und obwohl sie immer wieder vor Unwettern, Epidemien oder Kriegen gewarnt wird, beschäftigt sich die Familie doch mit Vorliebe mit sich selber, was ihre Überlebenschancen, sagen wir mal - nicht gerade erhöht.

Wie soll eine Familie überleben, wenn sie andauernd mit Pizza beschäftigt ist? Kann die Playstation in Zeiten der Panik helfen? Warum müssen die Schauspieler andauernd die Vorstellung unterbrechen? Und was haben sie eigentlich gegen Meerschweinchen?

BERLIN INTERNATIONAL YOUTH THEATRE macht aus diesem Klassiker eine schwarze Komödie voller Simpson-hafter Anspielungen und Symbolismen und schafft damit wieder einmal eines ihrer gefeierten Epen im BIYT-Stil!

Das Stück rockt und tanzt zur Musik von Natalia Lincoln, alles im bunten Bühnendesign von Silie Heeschen und mit einem Ensemble von 11- bis 17jährigen Jugendlichen aus neun verschiedenen Ländern. Ein Event für die ganze Familie - oder auch nicht.....
