David Bollier is an author, activist, blogger and independent scholar with a primary focus on the commons as a new paradigm of economics, politics and culture. Mr. Bollier is co-director of the Commons Law Project.

Mr. Bollier on The Rise of the Commons: "Economists and politicians have long assumed that there are only two sectors for governing things and "adding value" -- the state and the market. It is becoming increasingly clear, however, that there is another sector -- the commons -- that is at least as important to our lives and well-being. The commons consist of the social practices and values for managing shared resources such as water, the atmosphere, the Internet and creative works as well as countless local resources ranging from forests and fisheries to parks and libraries. One of the big challenges in the years ahead is to recognize this "hidden" paradigm of value and develop innovative public policies and social practices to nurture its growth.?
