English Theatre Berlin reading series.
The Australian Ambassador to Germany, Peter Tesch, and the Hamburg-resident Australian author and journalist, Campbell Jefferys, will draw on a wide range of literary and not-so-literary works to explore the questions, how are we seen and how would we like to be seen? (And, yes, there'll be Australian beer!)
Tickets: 5 Euros
The Making of Australia:
reflections on a work in progress
Myth-making has played an important role in the creation of a uniquely Australian identity - from the miners of the Eureka Stockade to 'Robin Hood'-styled bushrangers like Ned Kelly, to the bushmen idealised in the works of Lawson, Paterson and Dennis, to the Diggers of Gallipoli, to modern larrikins like Paul Hogan, Bob Hawke and the Crocodile Hunter.
But is this the whole story? Obviously not. Some of it may not even be true and, in any case, the Australian story has evolved in extraordinary ways in just the past 30 years.
