An interdisciplinary cultural-political theatre piece. The themes are widened and deepened, navigating the audience through the wildly contradictory currents of cultural and gender politics, of personal needs opposed to social contracts, and of the inevitability of catastrophe when violence is the main currency of negotiation.

Big Love by Charles Mee is based on a play written 2500 years ago by Aeschylus, "The Suppliant Women", in which he investigated the consequences of a mass of women fleeing from their impending forced marriages and their treatment in the land in which they seek shelter. Today, in "Big Love?, they gain and then loose asylum in their new country, death from their own people if they refuse to return, and must constantly fight to have their voices heard. Defiant to the last, they commit themselves to a terrible pact in order to win freedom at any cost.

So we ask ourselves: Twenty five centuries later, and what has changed? What is our modern reaction to mass immigration, even when accompanied by stories of atrocity and oppression? What do we do, when a group arrives en masse, claiming political asylum, and our response to their pleas could jeopardise our own national security? In order to regard ourselves as "civilised?, how far are we required to go, to defend the oppressed people of another nation against the "injustices? of their own culture? Are our values somehow inherently "better? than theirs? And even if they are, when do we get involved and when not? Kosovo, Rwanda, Libya, Syria, Gaza... these narratives are frighteningly familiar to a modern audience, lacking any certain compass for moral guidance.

Ein interdisziplinäres kultur-politisches Theaterstück, das die Zuschauer durch die widersprüchlichen Strömungen unseres Verständnisses der Geschlechterrollen und
kulturellen Traditionen führt. Schließlich wird das Publikum auch konfrontiert mit der Unvermeidbarkeit der Katastrophe, wenn Gewalt zum einzigen Mittel der Verhandlung wird.

Basieren auf einem Stück, das Aischylos vor gut 2500 Jahren geschrieben hat: "Die Schutzflehenden.? In dem er die Konsequenzen einer Massenflucht von Frauen erforscht, die vor der drohenden Zwangsheirat fliehen und in einem anderen Land um Schutz bitten. Im Gegensatz zu dem griechischen Original bekommen und verlieren sie ihr Asyl in "Big Love". Die fünfzig Frauen aus Aischylos' Stück sehen sich heute mit dem Tod durch ihre Landsleute konfrontiert, sollten sie sich weigern zurück zu kehren und müssen nun beständig darum kämpfen, ihrer Stimme Gehör zu verleihen. Bereit bis zum Letztem zu gehen, einigen sie sich auf einen schrecklichen Pakt, um ihre Freiheit um jeden Preis zu erkämpfen.

Also, fragen wir uns: was hat sich 2500 Jahre später geändert? Was ist unsere heutige Reaktion auf Massenimmigration, wenn sie sogar von Gräueltaten und Unterdrückung bedingt wird?
