The Robbers in English. Die Räuber, of course, is one of Germany's most popular classical plays from the Sturm + Drang period by one of Germany's most popular authors, Friedrich Schiller.

Radical and provocative at the time of its premiere in 1782, Bridge Markland presents the play as a high-speed, out of control One-Woman + Puppets Lip-Sync-Show with sexy Ken dolls as robbers and an original East German nutcracker.

Markland reinforces Schiller's strong language with 158 songs, including many film themes ranging from Wagner's "The Ride of the Valkyries" to Lady Gaga, from Ennio Morricone to the theme from Dallas, Rammstein, The Beatles, Bee Gees, Bloodhound Gang, David Bowie, Gotye, Whitney Houston, Human League, Led Zeppelin, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Marilyn Manson, Metallica, The Moody Blues, Elvis Presley, Public Enemy, Queen, Radiohead, Scooter, Simon & Garfunkel, Amy Winehouse and many others.

Bridge Markland macht aus Schillers Sturm und Drang Drama Die Räuber eine rasante Ein-Frau+Puppen-Voll-Playback-Show. Auflehnung, Neid, Liebe, Starrsinn, Heldenwahn und Verzweiflung sind der Stoff des Stücks. Schillers heftige Sprache verstärkt Markland mit 158 Song-Einspielungen, Film-Musiken und -Zitaten. Das geht von Wagners Walkürenritt bis zu Lady Gagas Pokerface, vom Morricone-Hit Once Upon a Time in the West bis zur Titelmusik von Dallas. Schillers Texte kommen aus dem Off, gesprochen von Schauspielern der englischsprachigen Theaterszene Berlins wie Peter Scollin vom Platypus Theater.

Der alte Graf von Moor vergöttert seinen hübschen Sohn Karl. Franz, der jüngere Sohn, sinnt auf Rache. Er will das Erbe an sich bringen: "I will root up from my path whatever obstructs my progress towards becoming the master." Rammstein röhrt dazu "Ich will jeden Herzschlag kontrollieren". Mit einem gefälschten Brief schwärzt er Karl beim Vater an. "It's Tragedy" ahnen die Bee Gees. Mit "Please Mr. Postman look and see if there is a letter for me" von den Carpenters wartet Karl in Leipzig auf Post vom Vater. Stattdessen kommt ein Brief des Bruders: "You may go, your father directs me to tell you, wherever your own vicious propensities lead. Nor are you to entertain any hope." Aus Verzweiflung gründet Karl eine Räuberbande. "Robbers and murderers! As my soul lives, I am your captain!" ruft Karl. So nimmt das Drama seinen Lauf.
